The Hall Institute is a non-partisan, not-for-profit foundation established to explore social, economic, educational and cultural issues. Our weekly email newsletter is sent to organizations and individuals with an interest in the material posted on our website at www.hallnj.org.
Hall Institute Communications Director Richard Lee, who has taught classes in media and government at Rutgers University, issued the following statement today regarding the decision to transfer operation of New Jersey Network to WNET:
Dollars and cents are not always the most important factors to consider in making decisions that have widespread impact on the citizenry. The decision to transfer operation of NJN to WNET may make sense from a fiscal perspective, but it is wrong from every other perspective. It diminishes support for quality journalism and strengthens the false perception that New Jersey is less important than its neighbors to the north and to the south.
