(NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO) -- Hall Institute Communications Director Richard Lee spoke about the role the Internet plays in government and politics during a popular culture conference in Canada on May 13.
Lee’s presentation, Can the Internet be as Effective for Governing as it has been for Campaigning?, was part of the Popular Culture Association of Canada's inaugural conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
“Effective and creative use of the Internet has become a staple of successful political campaigns in the 21st Century, but elected officials are just now starting to make successful use this new technology as part of the governing process," Lee said. "Put another way, could it be that the Internet less suited for governing than campaigning?”
Among the topics Lee discussed were Governor Christie's use of YouTube and the social networking tools employed by Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
Lee’s presentation at the three-day pop culture conference was part of a Politics and the Popular in the Digital Era panel.
