Hall Institute Statement on Higher Ed Report
The Hall Institute is a non-partisan, not-for-profit foundation established to explore social, economic, educational and cultural issues. Our weekly email newsletter is sent to organizations and individuals with an interest in the material posted on our website at www.hallnj.org.
Hall Institute Executive Director Michael P. Riccards, a former college president, issued the following statement today regarding the findings of the Higher Education Task Force:
"The governor and the commission should be praised for putting higher education back in the forefront. These recommendations though are so far-reaching that the state needs to return to the structure Governor Hughes established with a strong Chancellor and board."
Richard Lee, the organization's communications director and an adjunct instructor at Rutgers University, added the following comments:
"The concept of merging RWU Medical School with Rutgers University made sense back in 2003 when I was a member of the McGreevey Administration, and it makes even greater sense in today’s fiscal climate.
"Rutgers does not need to be turned from good to great; it needs to be turned from great to excellent. That can only happen by reducing the duplication and redundancy that unfortunately plagues New Jersey’s higher education system."
