(TRENTON) - The Hall Institute will explore New Jersey’s public policy issues in a new series of online, interactive video and audio programs that begins today.

The series will feature a live streaming video program on Thursday mornings and podcasts every Friday afternoon.

The videos will be available at www.livestream.com/thehallpublicforum and will be accompanied by a live chat that allows viewers to comment and submit questions. The programs will begin today at 11 a.m. with an interview with Woodbridge Mayor and former State Treasurer John E. McCormac.

The podcasts will be accessible at www.blogtalkradio.com/hall_institute at 2:30 p.m. every Friday. Hall Institute Communications Director Richard Lee and Michael Shapiro, editor of The Alternative Press, will discuss state and local issues. Listeners will be able to call in to 347-215-7656 and ask questions during each program.

All podcasts, as well as the video interviews, will remain archived on the Hall Institute website for future viewing and listening.

Future video programs will include:

  • February 11 (10:30 a.m.): Joshua McMahon, NewJerseyNewsroom.com contributor and longtime former Star-Ledger Government and Politics Editor, will discuss the state of journalism in New Jersey, the NewJerseyNewsroom project, and state political and government issues
  • February 18 (10:30 a.m.): Gina Genovese, Executive Director of Courage to Connect NJ and former Long Hill Township Mayor, will discuss municipal consolidation and shared services as a means to reduce property taxes
  • March 4 (10:30 a.m.): Hollie Gilroy, President of the Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey, will discuss Women’s History Month and New Jersey women in leadership positions.

Lee and Hall Institute Executive Director Michael Riccards will alternate as hosts of the program.

For several years, the Hall Institute has been using new media to promote constructive debate and discussion on the major public policy issues confronting New Jersey. During last year’s gubernatorial campaign, the organization conducted a series of podcasts on the race, and the new streaming video programs evolved from two seasons of public affairs television produced in partnership with Mercer County Community College. Those programs were made available on cable television, as well as on the institute’s YouTube channel. The institute also offers blogs and maintains an active presence on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Linked In.

The Hall Institute is a non-partisan, not-for-profit foundation established to explore social, economic, educational and cultural issues. Located in Trenton at 224 West State Street, the institute was established by George E. Hall, a successful business executive and a leading philanthropist who lives in Middletown, N.J.
